National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will commence an emergency 1080 ground baiting program in Kings Plains NP on the 22 January to 20 February 2025.
The operations will use manufactured baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs. Signs will be placed at the entry to all the baiting locations. Domestic pets are not permitted in NPWS managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Other planned events: Closure of Old Grafton Road
Clarence Valley Council are conducting extensive roadworks closing the Old Grafton Road (Old Glen Innes Road) between Newton Boyd and Buccarumbi, and as such access to Dalmorton campground is by Chaelundi Road from the south only. To access Chaelundi Road you will need to either enter via Marengo Road at Hernani, or via Sheepstation Creek Road at Dundurrabin. These roads are only suitable for 4WD vehicles and off-road caravans.
Please be aware this closure may add significantly to travel time to and from the campground. At this stage works are scheduled until the end of June 2025.

Closed areas: Road closure
Some areas of this park are closed until further notice due to the demolition of a bridge from a past flooding event.
The closed areas include the 4WD access to North Washpool, an area also known as Washpool rest area, entering from Baryulgil onto Collum Collum Road. The bridge is washed away at the junction of Washpool Creek and Collum Collum Road.
Please note:
- Washpool National Park’s 2WD entrance off Gwydir Highway onto Coachwood Drive and Washpool Forest Way is open.
- Bellbird campground, Coombadjha campground and the Granites lookout and picnic areas are accessible.

Closed areas: Park closed due to roadworks
To allow for access road upgrades to be conducted the primary access road to most visitor facilities in Washpool NP, Coachwood Drive, will be closed from 2pm Saturday 1 February until 2pm Friday 28 February 2025. Due to this closure Bellbird and Coombadjha campgrounds, the Coachwood and Granite picnic areas, and all walks that depart from these locations are also closed.
This road closure will not impact the World Heritage Walk, but for visitors intending to undertake the Walk during this time please contact the NPWS Northern Tablelands Area office on 02 6739 0700 to discuss camping options.
This closure does not extend to Four Bull Hut or the horse riding trails in the north-west area of Washpool NP.

Slingsbys trail is closed until further notice due to severe flooding causing damage to infrastructure (bridge).
The western part of Syndicate walking track is closed from Tuesday 16 January 2024 until further notice. NPWS staff are working to assess the damage and repair options. The area will reopen when safe.

Closed areas: Ngambaa Feral Predator Free Area - Closed Roads
Construction is complete on the Ngambaa Feral Predator-Free Area which has necessitated the closure of roads in the reserve for visitor safety.
Cedar Park picnic area will remain open and available for visitor access.
The following roads are subject to permanent closure as part of the construction and operation of the feral predator free area:
- Wittigs Road
- parts of Stockyard Creek Road
- Seams Road
- Jacks Road
- Buds Crossing Road
Construction works were completed in August and the 23k of fencing is complete.
Construction works have included:
- clearing the fence corridor
- building the fence
- installing bridge and culvert crossings.

Closed areas: Landslip on Hanging Rock Road in State forest
Access to Kosekai Lookout is currently NOT possible via Hanging Rock Road due to a section of Hanging Rock Road being damaged during March 2021 flooding event. The damaged section of road is managed by Forestry Corporation. Access to the lookout is now only possible in 4WD vehicles from the south via Boat Harbour Road and then turning onto Kosekai Road

Suttons road is closed to vehicle traffic following the second major pavement collapse in an area of highly dispersible soils. Alternate access is via Granite Pit or McMullens roads.
