Getting there and parking
Byarong Park is in the Mount Keira area of Illawarra Escarpment State Conservation Area. To get there:
- Head south on the Southern Freeway from Waterfall towards Wollongong. Exit at Figtree.
- Turn left onto Princes Highway.
- After 0.5km, turn left again onto Mount Keira Road. It’s a further 3km to Byarong Park.

Parking
There is parking at Byarong Park for up to 15 cars. It can be busy on weekends so parking might be limited. We encourage you to carpool for events where possible.
Parking on Mount Keira Road is not permitted.

- You can bring and use your own portable gas barbecue if it has a drip tray.
- Please leave the area clean and tidy and take all rubbish with you when you go. If significant cleaning is required there may be a fee.

Disability access level - medium
- The picnic area has step-free access from the carpark.
- The toilets are not wheelchair accessible.
- Some assistance may be required for wheelchair users to move around the grassed picnic area.
Medium access presents some minor difficulties, such as a grassy surface. You may require a little assistance to get around in some areas.

Food and drink
- You may bring your own food as well as portable gas barbecues fitted with drip trays for cooking.
- On-site barbecues can be used for catering purposes.
- Limited alcohol consumption by guests is permitted and amounts must be detailed on the application form.
Power, lighting and amplified sounds
- There is no publicly available power.
- 1 single speaker portable PA system or music player with an amplifier no greater than 50 watts.
- Volume must be kept at a level that does not interfere with other park users’ quiet enjoyment of the park.
- Lighting may be permitted and must be detailed on the application form.
Structures, staging, furniture, amusements and decorations
- Weighted free-standing decorative items such as bridal arches, red carpet and columns.
- 3 tables no larger than 3m square.
- Up to 15 chairs with rail-style legs.
Plant materials
You may bring petals, flowers and flower arrangements containing no seed material. A florist can arrange this for you on request.
Commercial filming and photography
Commercial filming and photography may be permitted on application. You’ll need to get the relevant photography license.
Cycling
Prohibited
Balloons, plant materials and animals are not permitted, including:
- Decorations consisting of flowers or plant materials that contain seeds or vines and exotic plant materials
- Throwing rice or petals
- Confetti
- Balloons
Marquees are not permitted. Please do not put up signage or cordon off structures or areas at Byarong Park.
Horse-drawn carriages are not permitted at this venue.

Illawarra Escarpment State Conservation Area is always open but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger. However, it is recommended that bushwalking only be undertaken during daylight hours because of the presence of cliff edges and other hazards.
