Closed areas: Worimi Conservation Lands is closed due to recent archaeological finds
Worimi Conservation Lands dune and beach area is closed to the public due to recent unexpected archaeological finds. Large volumes of sand have shifted due to the severe weather event and exposed numerous areas that require immediate protection until an assessment can be carried out.
NPWS is committed to ensuring some areas can remain open for public recreation. Attempts are being made to reopen sections of the beach for the January 26th weekend.
- Visitors are advised that beach driving is temporarily closed until further notice.
- The Ganyamalbaa campground is closed and will remain closed over the January 26th weekend. Further information will be provided next week
- The Recreational Vehicle Area is closed.
These closures may be extended if necessary as it is pending a full site survey.
Currently no vehicles are allowed on the beach during the closure. Gan Gan entry, Lavis Lane and Fern Bay entries are closed with barriers and signs in place.

Safety alerts: Periodic closures of Tomago Precinct for deer control shooting operation
Parts of Hunter Wetlands National Park may be closed within a date range of 6:30am Monday 5th August 2024 to 11:00pm Monday 30th June 2025 for deer control shoot operations preventing localised economic impacts and protecting biodiversity assets within the park.
When active the shoot operation area will be delineated by signage advising visitors “do not enter” at any time during the night time operation.
Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Safety alerts: Dangerous water conditions
Please do not swim or enter the water at Stockton Beach in the Worimi Conservation Lands. Tragically, people have drowned while swimming here.
The beach is remote, unpatrolled and has dangerous rip currents, unexpected large waves and sudden drop offs. Ocean conditions can change rapidly.
Mobile phone service is also limited here - you may not be able to call for help if you need it.

Safety alerts: Use caution for beach front driving
Beach driving conditions remain variable due to changing swell, tides and weather conditions. Drivers are advised to exercise caution when driving and to check conditions before travel.
Please remember to:
- Look out for soft sand, erosion, wash outs and drop-offs.
- Avoid driving through sea water, foam or large pools of water. Driving conditions can change rapidly. Several vehicles on this beach have ended up in the ocean or swamped by water.
- Check conditions before arriving, and if in doubt save your visit for another day.
Please follow the directions of National Parks and Wildlife Service personnel and/or signage. Do not drive over the frontal dune or any vegetation.
