If you love the sounds and sights of nature away from crowds, Whiskey Creek walk is for you. Located about 30 minutes from Murwillumbah and Mullumbimby, the walk winds through eucalypt woodland and sub-tropical rainforest by a clear creek.

Starting from Unicorn Falls carpark, amble through eucalypt woodland following a small section of the Gidjuum Gulganyi Walk which will open in 2025. Can you spot the blueberry ash tree with its white spring flowers and summer berries that give the tree its name? As you walk along the creek line, take breaks to admire the dappled rainforest where the wonga wonga vine winds round the vegetation, and the bangalow palm displays its red berries in winter.

When you reach the loop section, keep some energy for the steep walk up from Whiskey Creek. Then follow the track back to Unicorn Falls carpark.

Look out for shy Alberts lyrebirds and red-legged pademelons passing by on the forest floor, and listen for the distinctive call of the cat bird. When the creek fills with water, you can hear frogs singing and see eastern water dragons and other lizards sunning themselves.

If you have more time, combine this walk with Unicorn Falls walking track which takes you to a lovely waterfall in the rainforest.
