Closed areas: Red Hands Cave & Walking Tracks temporarily closed

Red Hands Cave, Red Hands Cave walking track, Campfire Creek walking track and the Link walking track within Blue Mountains National Park has been temporarily closed to all visitors due to deterioration of the elevated platform at Red Hands Cave.

An investigation into the elevated platform is being undertaken while the area is temporarily closed from Tuesday 1 April 2025 until further notice.

Fire bans: Kanangra Reserves

A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed.

However Wombeyan Caves campground in Wombeyan Karst Conservation Reserve is exempt.

During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the local park office before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.

Closed areas: Woodford Oaks Singles Bike track closure

Woodford-Oaks Singles track within the Glenbrook precinct of Blue Mountains National Park will be closed on weekdays from Wednesday 12 March to Wednesday 30 April 2025 inclusive, for track maintenance works.

Woodford-Oaks Singles track will be open on weekends.

Closed areas: Burragorang SCA partly closed for deer control program

Burragorang State Conservation Area will be closed between 5:00pm and 6:00am, from Monday 24 March 2025 - Monday 30 June 2025, for a feral deer management program. 

This program is part of our ongoing efforts to reduce the significant impact of deer on native plants and animals, including threatened species.

  • The control method will involve use of firearms by qualified and experienced contractors and staff.
  • Closures will not apply on weekends or public holidays during this period.
