Closed areas: Areas closed for aerial shooting for feral animal control

The following reserves and parts of park will be closed from 2pm Sunday 3 November to 2pm Friday 8 November 2024 for a pest management program:

  • Barren Grounds Nature Reserve
  • Carrington Falls precinct of Budderoo National Park, including Thomas Place, Nellies Glen and Douglas Creek trail
  • Budderoo Fire Trail precinct of Budderoo National Park, including access to the top of Gerringong Falls

 

This program will involve aerial shooting during daylight hours. Feral species targeted under this program include deer, goats, pigs, foxes and other pests. It aims to reduce the significant impact they have on native plants and animals including threatened species.

The closed areas will be sign-posted at relevant access points. Please avoid these areas and do not enter closed areas during this time. Please follow directions from NPWS staff and authorised contractors.

 

Note that this program is likely to require only a single day of operations, dependent on weather, and so the above time period may be reduced as the program approaches. Continue to check this alert for updates.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is conducting a continual and ongoing 1080 ground baiting program for the control of foxes from Friday 14 June 2024 to Friday 13 December 2024 to reduce the impacts on threatened species.

The operation will target foxes in the Carrington Falls, Budderoo Plateau, Knights Hill and Barren Grounds areas. Baits have been placed on NPWS estate and Crown road reserves with permissions.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species.

1080 baiting signs are at all entries to the baiting location. Don’t touch baits or ejector devices. Some baits may be buried.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Fire bans: Hawkesbury-Nattai Reserves

A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed.

However, the following campgrounds are exempt in the following reserves:

Yellomundee Regional Park

  • Shaws Creek Aboriginal Place

During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the local park office before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.

Safety alerts: Potential difficulties for cyclists navigating Beehive Walking Track

Cyclists undertaking the Fitzroy Falls to Kangaroo Valley cycling route are advised that there may be difficulties riding Beehive Walking Track, which provides one of two access routes to Beehive Campground. The original track has been closed to vehicles with many large logs impeding access. Alternative riding access to Beehive Campground is possible via Jack's Corner Road and Beehive Point Road.

 

This closure only affects cyclists wishing to access Beehive Point Campground. Walkers are not impacted by this closure and cyclists may choose to walk the trail with their bikes, lifting them over logs when required.

The following parts of Morton National Park will be closed from 2pm Sunday 03 November to 2pm Friday 08 November 2024 for a pest management program:

  • Areas west and north of the Shoalhaven River, including Caoura Ridge, Long Point, Badgerys Spur, Matodoro Ridge and all associated walking tracks and lookouts,
  • Areas east of the Shoalhaven River to Tolwong Road,
  • Shoalhaven Gorge area, upstream of Fossickers Flat.
  • Areas south of the Corang River and east of Wog Wog creek, including the Scenic Rim Walking Track (west of Canowie Brook) and adjacent landforms of Corang Plateau and Goodsell Basin.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program from Monday 26 February 2024 to Friday 21 February 2025. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of Wild Dogs and foxes.

The program will take place in the following parks:

  • Bees Nest Nature Reserve
  • Morton National Park

The Morton National park operation will take place north and south of Braidwood Road and affect the following areas:

  • Touga/Tolwong
  • Sasafrass area
  • Endrick River/Alum Creek/Redground area (Nerriga)
  • Little Forest/Tianjara area
  • 12 Mile Road area
  • Croobyar and Kingiman area (Milton)

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on stock and wildlife, especially threatened species.

Closed areas: Camping areas closed due to flood and fire damage

Camping is closed indefinitely at the following campgrounds due to fire damage and flooding. The closed campground include (open for day-use only): 

  • Pauls Point
  • Sundeck 
  • Sawyers 
  • Burrawang

Please note that the campgrounds will remain open for day use. Some campgrounds may be affected by flood debris following heavy rain, and there may be steep sand walls to access sites.

Please be cautious and move onto another campground if safety issues occur. There have been many changes to campgrounds along the river, including reduced campground capacity. Some sites also have extensive regrowth following fires.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is disposing of used 1080 baits and baiting products in an approved disposal pit on NPWS National Parks land within the Fitzroy Falls area.

The burial of used baits and products will happen from Friday 14 June 2024 to Friday 13 December 2024. All bait material in the pit will be buried under at least 500mm of soil, and clear of waterways so as not to cause pollution of waterways. This is in accordance with the current Pesticide Control Order (1080 bait products).

There will be 1080 baiting signs at the entrance to the disposal pit site.

1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) is lethal to pets (including domestic dogs and cats) and working dogs. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance. Domestic pets, including dogs and cats, are not permitted in national parks or reserves.

  • Budderoo National Park is always open but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger. The park gates at Minnamurra Rainforest Centre open at 9am and close at 5pm every day.

  • Park entry fees:
