provided
Yes. We provide handheld gardening tools and gloves. No chemicals are used during this activity.

Your team will us remove ground asparagus from this beautiful part of Sydney Harbour National Park. The vine-like asparagus fern is a Weed of National Significance that invades coastal and sub-coastal plant communities. It forms dense infestations that smother native species and prevents them from germinating and establishing themselves.

The Middle Head experience runs from 9.30am to 2.30pm and features:

  • Welcome and acknowledgement of Country.
  • Tailored team-building activities and games.
  • Bush regeneration of biologically important areas, including removing weeds and rubbish and restoring habitat for the endangered long-nosed bandicoot.
  • An informative tour of previously rehabilitated areas of the park, including historic sites.
  • Guidance throughout from knowledgeable, friendly Discovery rangers and guides.
  • Morning tea and lunch on request (additional fees apply).

The work involves removing weeds using handheld gardening tools. Volunteers ensure that the entire root system is removed, as well as the foliage. No chemicals are used during this activity.

By volunteering, your group will directly contribute to a meaningful bush regeneration conservation program. They'll also enjoy time in nature and work together, building stronger relationships through collaboration. They'll help us make a positive impact on the native habitats of the area, which is home to long-nosed bandicoots, water dragons, blue-tongue lizards, ring-tailed possums and green tree snakes.
