Closed parks: National Parks closed due to ex-tropical cyclone Alfred

For safety, some national parks and reserves on the North Coast are closed until Monday 7 April due to damage caused by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred. Areas will be opened once inspections, and any necessary works, are completed. Public access roads through parks will not be affected by park closures.

Closed areas: Areas closed for aerial pest control operation

An aerial pest control operation will be taking place in Oxley Wild Rivers National Park and State Conservation Area, Werrikimbe National Park and State Conservation Area, and Carrai National Park and State Conservation Area from 4pm Tuesday 25 March to 4pm Friday 28 March 2025. 

 

Visitor areas other than the ones listed below will remain open but access outside of designated trails and visitor facilities is strictly prohibited. Signage will be in place for closed areas, penalties apply for non-compliance during the operational time. 

 

Areas closed for operation include:

- Halls Peak campground and day-use area

- Riverside campground and day-use area

- Budds Mare to Riverside walking track

- Youdales campground and day-use area

- The Green Gully Track

 

No entry is permitted to the above areas or waterways during this time. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Closed areas: Wollomombi area closed for aerial pest control operation

An aerial pest control operation will be undertaken in the Wollomombi precinct of Oxley Wild Rivers National Park from 4pm Tuesday 25 March to 4pm Wednesday 26 March 2025. 

No access is permitted to the campground, picnic area or Wollomombi and Chandler walking tracks and lookouts during this time.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will commence a 1080 ground and aerial baiting program on the 24th March 2025 to the 22nd June 2025 on the following reserves:

The operations will use meat baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. Signs will be placed at the entry to all the baiting locations. Domestic pets are not permitted in NPWS managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: Mary's View Lookout - Closed

Warrick Road will be closed from the 4 November 2024 or a period of time due to planned road works.   Mary's View Lookout will be closed until the work is complete.  If you have any questions please contact the Walcha NPWS Office on 6777 4700.

Other planned events: Closure of Old Grafton Road

Clarence Valley Council are conducting extensive roadworks closing the Old Grafton Road (Old Glen Innes Road) between Newton Boyd and Buccarumbi, and as such access to Dalmorton campground is by Chaelundi Road from the south only. To access Chaelundi Road you will need to either enter via Marengo Road at Hernani, or via Sheepstation Creek Road at Dundurrabin. These roads are only suitable for 4WD vehicles and off-road caravans.

Please be aware this closure may add significantly to travel time to and from the campground. At this stage works are scheduled until the end of June 2025.
