Join this fascinating guided walk around the gaol as the sun sets.

You’ll meet your guide at the gates of the gaol and go on a journey of discovery. Find out what life was like for prisoners in solitary confinement and those who built the breakwall at Trial Bay Gaol. Your guide will share some great stories about the villains and heroes who lived here, and the fate that met gaol escapees. As you explore the gaol, you'll also learn about how German internees were treated during World War I.

Climb the steep steps to the lookout tower and gaze over the bay and its wildlife at dusk. Delight in the gaol's architecture set against its stunning natural backdrop at this golden hour. You may even see the resident kangaroos that return to graze on grass as dusk descends.

You'll leave with an understanding of the resilience and creativity of past inmates, and an appreciation for this relic of colonial architecture.

Don’t forget to wear enclosed shoes and weather appropriate clothing. Bring along a small hand torch if the tour continues after sunset.
