From December to April, the mountains come alive with seasonal wildflowers like iconic billy buttons, silver snow daisies, eyebrights and many more. Over 200 plant species can be found in the Kosciuszko alps. It's the perfect time to join this spectacular guided walk and discover the colours of Kosciuszko.
Starting at the trail head near Rock Creek Reservoir in Perisher Valley, we’ll follow Porcupine walk upwards through open ancient snow-gum woodland, heath and herb fields. You'll feel the soft snowgrasses underfoot and enjoy the mountain air perfumed by alpine mint bush. Up higher, you'll be met with hardy snowgrass, more ancient snow gums and striking rock boulders.
Our destination, Porcupine Rocks, is a prominent and large outcrop of granite boulders on the ridge. When we get there, we’ll take a break and enjoy panoramic views of the Main Range. The vista takes in Thredbo River Valley, with views back to Perisher and across Ramshead Range to the south. On a clear day, it’s possible to see halfway to the NSW far south coast. As one of our 6-year-old visitors commented: 'From the top you can see the whole world!'
It’s a good idea to bring a hat, drinking water, sunscreen, snacks, sturdy shoes, insect repellent and clothes for all weather conditions.
