Why do I need a parks pass for Kosciuszko National Park?
Motor vehicle entry fees are charged at 45 NSW national parks and reserves managed by NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS). This fee relates to motor vehicles, not people, so you only need to pay for each vehicle or motorcycle that enters a park. If you ride a bicycle or walk, entry is free.
Park passes cover your vehicle entry fee, and help NPWS support and care for our national parks.

- maintain and improve visitor facilities
- protect threatened species and their habitats
- conserve historic sites and places of cultural significance.
What type of parks pass do I need?
There are several types of parks pass available for Kosciuszko National Park, including day passes, multi-day passes and annual passes. The type of pass that’s right for you will depend on:
- how long you plan to stay in Kosciuszko
- if you plan to make multiple visits a year
- if you’ll also be visiting any of the other fee-collecting national parks and reserves.

When should I buy my pass?
If you’re planning a short visit to Kosciuszko National Park, during normal operating hours you can buy day and multi-day passes from any of the local NPWS visitor centres or vehicle entry stations, as well as at Thredbo Visitor Centre and NPWS Perisher Valley Office.
If you’re planning a longer trip or you generally visit other fee-collecting national parks you should buy your annual pass online before visiting Kosciuszko National Park. When you buy your pass online it will link instantly to your vehicle.
If you’re buying a concession, senior or discounted pass online you’ll need to apply at least 3 days before your visit to allow time for your application to be processed and approved. If you don’t want to wait you can apply in person at a local NPWS visitor centre during normal operating hours. Be sure to bring all the required supporting documents with you.
Where can I buy a pass?
During normal operating hours, you can buy a day pass or multi-day pass from vehicle entry stations, local NPWS visitor centres, the Thredbo Visitor Centre or the NPWS Perisher Valley Office.
If you’re buying an annual pass you can:
- buy it online and it will link instantly to your vehicle
- buy it from a local NPWS visitor centre before entering the park.
You can’t buy an annual pass at a vehicle entry station.
Can Seniors buy a Seniors annual parks pass on arrival at the park?
Because it can take up to 3 days for your Seniors discount annual pass to be approved and registered to your vehicle, you can’t buy your Seniors annual pass on arrival at the park.
Without a relevant annual pass, to enter the park you’ll need to buy a day pass or multi-day pass from a vehicle entry station or local NPWS visitor centre during normal operating hours.
Can I upgrade a standard day pass or multi-day pass to an annual pass?
No. You can’t upgrade a standard day pass or multi-day pass to an annual pass.Can I upgrade a Single, Country or Multi Parks pass to an All Parks pass?
Yes.
To upgrade your pass, visit a local NPWS visitor centre during normal operating hours or submit a request via email.
You’ll need to provide:
- your vehicle registration papers showing your name
- a photo of your current Single, Country or Multi Parks pass, if it’s a physical sticker
- your email address, telephone number and postal address.
If you arrive at Kosciuszko National Park before upgrading your pass, to be allowed into the park you will need to buy a day pass or multi-day pass.
What is a reminder notice?
A reminder notice may be issued if you visit Kosciuszko National Park without a valid vehicle day pass or relevant annual pass.
If you are issued with a reminder notice it must be paid in accordance with the instructions provided on the notice.
Any amount payable for a reminder notice can't be used as discount toward any park entry fee product.
