School incursion: Learn about Gumbaynggirr life

Overview
Gumbaynggirr life and culture is brought to your classroom in this Stage 2 (Years 3-4) History incursion. Students will learn about the Gumbaynggirr spirituality and their concepts of connection to Country and community with an Aboriginal Education Ranger.

From the comfort of their classroom, students will journey through the Dreamtime history of the Gumbaynggirr People. Together we’ll explore traditional culture, and the deep connection to Country and concepts of spirituality and community held by the Gumbaynggirr.
Through fun activities and use of traditional tools and music, students will develop a deep appreciation for the Gumbaynggirr way of life.
They’ll develop an understanding of Aboriginal culture, and the rich inter-generational wisdom held by the world’s oldest living civilisation.
This incursion is designed to support the K-10 history syllabus topic Community and Remembrance.
