Fire bans: NSW NPWS Riverina Area - Solid Fuel Fire Ban (SFFB) Commences

A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

Other planned events: Notice of ongoing 1080 program in Oolambeyan NP

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program from 14 August 2024 to 13 February 2025. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of feral foxes.

The program will take place in Oolambeyan National Park.

The program is designed to minimise impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of foxes on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Please be advised that many roads within Millewa, Moira & Gulpa Island are currently closed due to rising flood water. These include:

  • Sections of Edward River Road
  • Fishermans Bend Road
  • Dudley's Road
  • Clay Island Road
  • Tin Hut Road
  • Quambies Road
  • Little Edwards Road
  • Glenns Road
  • Sams Road
  • Plantation Road
  • Warri Yards Road
  • Duffer Road
  • Swifts Creek Road (alternate route via Porters Creek Road or Narrows Road)
  • Algabohnyah (Algeboia) Road

  • Finley Beach
  • Grassy Beach

Other planned events: Notice of use of Hoggone meSN Feral Pig Bait from 7 October 2024 - South West Woodlands Nature Reserve - Coradgery Precinct

Due to a large number of feral pigs causing impacts the Reserve, and to meet NPWS's General Biosecurity Duty, (GBD), under the Biosecurity Act, NPWS will be using Hoggone to control feral pigs.

 

NPWS pesticides trained staff will be using a new control product to lessen the impacts caused by feral pigs in South West Woodlands Nature Reserve - Coradgery Precinct.

 

HOGGONE will be used on this Reserve, and the product is a peanut based product with Sodium nitrite as the poison.

 

This product is very effective on controlling feral pigs and when used carefully has few off-target impacts.

 

NPWS staff will be monitoring the success of the program and have allowed a 8 week window to undertake the program.

Flood damage includes, eroded river banks, washouts and sinkholes making it hard to access the campgrounds and unsafe to camp.
