Closed areas: Parts of Blue Mountains National Park closed
Many roads, fire trails and walking tracks in Blue Mountains National Park are closed due to infrastructure upgrades or damage caused by wet weather including subsidence, rockfalls, landslides and fallen trees.
The following tracks are closed:
Katoomba and Leura
- Federal Pass is closed between Cooks Crossing (200m east of Furber Steps) and Giant Stairs due to a major rockfall. There is no access between Giant Stairs (below Three Sisters) and Scenic World Valley Stations or Furber Steps. You can descend Giant Stairs and walk Federal Pass or Dardanelles Pass to Leura Forest and exit via Amphitheatre track.
- Honeymoon Bridge is closed due to rockfall risk.
- Prince Henry Cliff walk (part of Grand Cliff Top walk) is closed between Gordon Falls picnic area and Elysian Rock lookout, due to a landslide. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information. Detours will also be in place via Olympian Parade.
- Gordon Falls picnic area is closed due to upgrades. Detours for walking tracks are in place. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information.
- Fern Bower track between Prince Henry Cliff walk and Amphitheatre track is closed due to landslides. Access to Leura Forest and Jamison Valley is via Amphitheatre track.
- Golden Stairs walking track is closed due to landslides and rock fall. There is no access from Glenraphael Drive to Ruined Castle, Federal Pass or Scenic World.
- Lone Lyrebird track is closed between Gordon Road and the War Memorial, due to subsidence. Detour is in place.
- Part of Lindeman Pass is closed due to a major landslide below Gladstone lookout. Roberts Pass is closed due to rockfall and landslide hazards.
- Six Foot track is affected by closures at Jenolan Caves.
- The Six Foot Track between Katoomba (Explorer's Tree) to Alum Creek will be closed from 1st-3rd April 2025 for aerial pest control works.
Wentworth Falls and Woodford
- Undercliff track, between Fletchers lookout and Princes Rock link track, is closed for maintenance from Wednesday 5 February 2025.
- Valley of the Water track has been affected by storms which has caused debris to affect the track and surrounds. Water levels can be unpredictable, and visitors should be aware of changing conditions.
- Charles Darwin walk (part of Grand Cliff Top walk) is closed between Fletcher Street and Weeping Rock. Detours are in place to provide directions to Wentworth Falls picnic area. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information.
- Part of National Pass (west of Wentworth Falls middle crossing) is closed due to a major landslide and ongoing risks.
- Wentworth Pass and Slack Stairs are closed due to multiple landslides. No access to Roberts Pass and Vera Falls. Valley of the Waters track is closed below Sylvia Falls.
Blackheath, Mount Victoria and Bells Line of Road
- Pulpit Rock Reserve, lookouts and walking track are closed. For more information visit the Blue Mountains City Council website. Pulpit Rock walking track from Popes Glen is open as far as the NPWS boundary (as shown on Google maps).
- Govetts descent and Rodriguez Pass are closed due to rockfalls and landslides. The Grose Valley can be accessed from Blackheath via Perrys Lookdown or the Horse track.
Adventure recreation, canyons, abseiling and rock climbing

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program from 1 November 2024 to 30 April 2025. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes.
The program will take place in Wollemi National Park specifically the Canobla Gap Trail and Capertee River Trail areas in the Capertee Valley.
The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species including the Brush Tailed Wallaby, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.
Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Safety alerts: Remote walking track conditions
Remote routes within the Kanangra Wilderness Area including Kanangra to Katoomba (K2K) trail have been impacted by heavy fire regrowth and flood damage.
In some places, tracks are no longer visible and are not easy to navigate, taking longer to traverse than expected. Limited to zero water sources are currently available along routes.
If you plan to walk in the area, please ensure you have an appropriate level of experience, navigation skills and equipment including Personal Locator Beacon (PLB).
Mobile reception is limited so alternative communication methods are strongly recommended.

Bungleboori Picnic Area is temporarily open to visitors. Construction work has commenced at Bungleboori Picnic Area with construction work set to commence again in early 2025. Visitors must slow down and take care due to the changed conditions.

- Planting of local native species to revegetate the area and provide future shade trees
- Car park including long vehicle and accessible parking

How you can help

- Start your trip with clean, dirt-free, dry gear (including shoes, bike tyres, camping gear, vehicles)
- Use the boot wash or scrub stations provided – these capture contaminated water or control flow to septic or sewage systems where root rot will die
- Stay on formed tracks
- Follow instructions on signage
- Clean your gear again when you get home – try a solution of 70% methylated spirits or ethanol, 30% water, and wash straight into the septic/sewage system. You may want to keep a spray bottle in the car.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program from Monday 23rd September 2024 to Sunday 23rd March 2025. The operation will use a Felixer containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of feral cats, and approved meat baits, meat bait products, and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPE) for the control of foxes and wild dogs.
The program will be conducted in Nattai National Park.
The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species.
Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a baiting program using Canid Pest Ejectors (CPEs) and fresh meat baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. The 1080 bating program is ongoing and will continue to be conducted between 01 September 2024 and 28 February 2025 within Winburndale Nature Reserve. All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.
Please be reminded that domestic pets are not permitted on NPWS estate. Pets and working dogs may be affected and must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity of the nature reserve and must not enter the baiting location (as 1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Haulage trucks are in operation along Old Bells Line of Rd between the park entrance near Chifley Road (Zig Zag Railway) and Clarence Sands during the following times:

Closed parks: Yiraaldiya National Park closed during the establishment of feral predator-free area
Yiraaldiya National Park is a feral predator-free area. This means that feral predators, such as red foxes and feral cats, are being eradicated from the park. Locally extinct native wildlife are being reintroduced, including eastern bettongs, koalas and long-nosed bandicoots. For this reason, there is no access to the park while the feral predator-free area is being established. Once complete, the park will open for sustainable visitor access and enjoyment, and educational and research opportunities.
During the closure period visitors may not visit the park, and only NPWS staff and authorised contractors and volunteers are allowed entry to the park.
