Closed areas: Areas closed for hazard reduction burning - Pinch Mountain and Beehive Mountain HRs

Some parts of this park will be closed for hazard reduction burning from Thursday 14 May to Sunday 17 May 2026. The closed areas are:

  • Beehive Mountain and surrounds adjacent to the Pinch/Moyangul campground and the Barry Way (Lower Snowy drive)
  • the Pinch Mountain area of the Byadbo Wilderness Area

The Barry Way and all associated visitor areas will remain open.

Closed areas: Thredbo Diggings Campground Pre-Winter Closures

Thredbo Diggings Campground will be closed to all visitors from 8am Monday 18 May 2026 until 12pm Saturday 30 May 2026.

This closure is to ensure important pre-winter maintenance can be completed.

Closed areas: Thredbo Valley track partial closure

With forecast weather and planned maintenance, the Thredbo Valley track is now closed to cyclists between Thredbo Resort and Thredbo Diggings. This section will remain open for walkers.

Sections between Thredbo Diggings and Bullocks Flat, including Muzzlewood track, and the lower Thredbo Valley track (Bullocks Flat to Thredbo River picnic area) remain open to cyclists and walkers.

As winter approaches these closures will extend along the track. Please continue to check alerts and obey all signage. Follow IMBA Guidelines and don't ride on wet tracks.

The Old Geehi campground is closed for safety due to hazard reduction burning impacting on the Geehi Hut and Geehi Walls trails. The closure applies to:

  • Old Geehi campground and Old Geehi Hut
  • Geehi Hut trail
  • Geehi Walls and associated section of the National trail
  • Major Clews trail and Major Clews Hut

Closed areas: Illawong Trackhead closed to vehicles for upgrade

The Guthega Track Head vehicle drop off area and turning circle is closed to vehicles for construction works from Monday 10 October 2025  to Friday 1 May 2026. 

Walkers can still access the Snowies Alpine Walk and Illawong Walk. NPWS are constructing a new toilet facility at the Guthega Track Head.

Safety alerts: Thredbo Alpine Village pindone rabbit control program

Kosciuszko Thredbo (KT) will be conducting a baiting program using carrots containing pindone (pindone, sodium salt) poison for the control of rabbits. The program will take place between Monday20 April 2026 and Friday 22 May 2026 at Thredbo Alpine Village, within Kosciuszko National Park.

All baiting locations will be signposted. Free feeding using non-poisoned carrots will be undertaken before using pindone carrots.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets may be affected by pindone. Pets must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance

Closed areas: Snow Gums boardwalk closed for maintenance

The Snow Gums boardwalk at Charlotte Pass track head will be closed from 20 April 2026 to enable the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service to undertake major maintenance before winter. The boardwalk will remain closed until further notice. 

Visitors are instructed to obey all signage and directions from NPWS staff and contractors. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Safety alerts: Geehi Dam Road - changed road conditions

Road repair works are to be carried out on Geehi Dam Road from early March to 6 June 2026. The worksite is located approximately 2km south of Geehi Dam. The Geehi Dam Road remains open but will be reduced to one lane of traffic with give-way signage at the road repair site. There is increased heavy vehicle movement on the Geehi Dam Road over this period and the Middle Creek Former Snowy Scheme Site is to be used for materials storage for the project.

To assist in your journey, please use caution when driving on the Geehi Dam Road and do not enter areas of construction.
