Access to Yathong NR Quarters via Wagga Tank Management Trail is closed.
Due to recent storm damage, the Wagga Tank Management Trail has become a safety concern due to washouts.
These washouts are hazardous to vehicles, entering the Reserve. NPWS staff are undertaking works to repair this trail, however this trail is not trafficable at this time.
For emergency access and authorised NPWS work, please consider access via Mailbox Management Trail, or Cobar Road.

Fire bans: Solid Fuel Fire Ban
A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:
- They're under direct control of an adult
- The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
- There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)
If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the local park office before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.

Other planned events: Notice of use of Hoggone meSN Feral Pig Bait from 7 October 2024 - South West Woodlands Nature Reserve - Coradgery Precinct
Due to a large number of feral pigs causing impacts the Reserve, and to meet NPWS's General Biosecurity Duty, (GBD), under the Biosecurity Act, NPWS will be using Hoggone to control feral pigs.
NPWS pesticides trained staff will be using a new control product to lessen the impacts caused by feral pigs in South West Woodlands Nature Reserve - Coradgery Precinct.
HOGGONE will be used on this Reserve, and the product is a peanut based product with Sodium nitrite as the poison.
This product is very effective on controlling feral pigs and when used carefully has few off-target impacts.
NPWS staff will be monitoring the success of the program and have allowed a 8 week window to undertake the program.

Flood damage includes, eroded river banks, washouts and sinkholes making it hard to access the campgrounds and unsafe to camp.

Willandra National Park will be CLOSED until further notice, whilst staff undertake major repair works.
In the interest of visitor safety, we will need to keep the park CLOSED until repairs have been completed and the park is deemed safe to re-open.
This closure includes roofed accommodation, campgrounds and all park roads. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Other incidents: Visitation restrictions
There are a number of restrictions on visitation and access by the general public to Yathong, Nombinnie and Round Hill Nature Reserves and Nombinnie State Conservation Area.
- These reserves are not available for overnight camping or hiking. Visitation is restricted to day visits only.
- Vehicle access is restricted to the public roads passing through or adjoining the reserves. Management trails are closed to vehicles. However you are welcome to walk on the trails.
- Bird watchers are welcome to walk into the reserves and along management trails. However take care to make sure you can navigate back to your car - it is easy to get disorientated in mallee country.
- Trips to Round Hill Nature Reserve by bird watching clubs can be done by prior arrangement.
- There are a number of scientific research programs happening in the reserves and visitors should not disturb any field equipment if they come across it.
- The reserves are closed periodically to allow management programs to be undertaken. Please check the website for closures prior to visits.
