Closed areas: Yanga Homestead Planned Closure due to Rabbit baiting
The Yanga Homestead precinct in Yanga National Park will be closed from 8:30am, Friday 29 November to 4:30pm, Sunday 15 December, 2024 for ground 1080 & Pindone baiting for feral animal control. All other visitor areas of the park will remain open including day-use areas and campgrounds.
The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) and Pindone poison for the control of rabbits.
The program is designed to minimise impacts on native vegetation and wildlife, especially threatened species. It will also help protect the historic buildings in the precinct.
Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in national parks and other NPWS managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

There is currently a Blue Green Algae AMBER Alert for Yanga Lake. Blue-green algae may be multiplying, and the water may have a green tinge and musty or organic taste and odour. The
water should be considered as unsuitable for potable use and alternative supplies or prior treatment of raw water for domestic purposes should be considered. The water may also be unsuitable for stock watering. Generally suitable for water sports, however people are advised to exercise caution in these areas, as blue-green algal concentrations can rise to red alert levels quickly under warm, calm weather conditions.
