The Central West Area of the NSW NPWS is proposing to conduct a prescribed burn in the southern section of Weddin Mountains National Park between Monday 28 April 2025 until Sunday 4 May 2025.
The burn being Black Springs HR (south of Black Springs fire trail) includes moderate terrain areas within the national park as well as an adjoining section of Weddin State Forest.
As a result, Weddin Mountains National Park will be closed to all public use (ie camping and recreational activities such as walking along designated walking tracks and management trails) while the prescribed burn is being conducted. The park will reopen once the area has been inspected and assessed as safe to permit public use. No public vehicular access is permissible within the national park.
Smoke from the Hazard Reduction may settle in surrounding properties and towns as the temperatures cool overnight.
NPWS advises residents in surrounding areas to keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering homes.
If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities if smoke levels are too high and if shortness of breath or coughing develops, take your reliever medication or seek medical advice.
