Notice of 1080 ground baiting program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting ground baiting program from Monday 22 July 2024 to Friday 20 December 2024. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes.

The program will take place in the following parks:

  • Seven Mile Beach National Park
  • Comerong Island Nature Reserve
  • Jervis Bay National Park

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species.

All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: Parts of White Sands Walk Closed

Parts of White Sands Walk (section behind Chinamans Beach) of Jervis Bay National Park is closed for track maintenance from Monday 18 November to Monday 2 December 2024. Alternatively, walkers can use Chinamans Beach from Aster Street to walk between Vincentia & Hyams Beach Village.

Safety alerts: Nigh time fox control operations

Please be aware night shooting of foxes may occur in the following beaches to protect nesting shorebirds:

  • Seven Mile Beach (Seven Mile Beach National Park)
  • Comerong Island (Comerong Island Nature Reserve)

Fox control is undertaken by qualified shooters in accordance to shot plans between 11 November until 29 November 2024 to protect endangered nesting shorebirds.

Access tracks and beach entrances will be closed and signposted prior to shooting operations. Please look out for signage stating the beach is closed if accessing these beaches after dark.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting weed spraying from Monday 21 October to Friday 22 November.  The operation will use BUFFALO (Bromoxynil and MCPA) for the control of Bindi in the lawn.

 

The program will take place in Greenfield picnic Area, Jervis Bay National Park.
