Getting there and parking

Glow Worm Tunnel via Wolgan Valley loop track is in the Lithgow area of Wollemi National Park. 

To get there:

  • From Bells Line of Road or the Darling Causeway, turn onto Chifley Road at Bell.
  • Follow Chifley Road into Lithgow then turn right at Bridge Street.
  • The route is signposted from the corner of Bridge Street to Inch Street. 
  • Turn right at Inch Street.
  • Turn left at Atkinson Street and after 750m, turn right onto State Mine Gully Road. State Mine Gully Road is a gravel road that becomes Glow Worm Tunnel Road.
  • After about 39km, you’ll drive through a 60m tunnel just before you reach the Glow Worm Tunnel car park.

Road quality

State Mine Gully Road and Glow Worm Tunnel Road is an unsealed gravel road in Gardens of Stone State Conservation Area. While 2WD vehicles can access this route in dry weather, 4WD vehicles are highly recommended. Access is by 4WD only in wet weather.

Please drive carefully on the narrow gravel roads and look out for wildlife.

Parking

The carpark is at the end of Glow Worm Tunnel Road at the start of Glow Worm Tunnel walking track. Car spaces are limited during peak times.

You can also park at the Old Coach Road carpark and walk 1.5km along Old Coach trail to connect to the loop. Old Coach Road carpark is about a 17 minute drive from Glow Worm Tunnel carpark. Access is on Old Coach Road, off Glow Worm Tunnel Road.

Facilities

  • There are no bins so you’ll need to take all rubbish away with you.
  • Drinking water is not available in this area so you’ll need to bring your own.
  • There are raised platform seating/tables at the Glow Worm Tunnel carpark and outside Glow Worm Tunnel.
  • Toilet facilities are in the carpark at the start of the waking track.

Safety messages

The Glow Worm Tunnel to Newnes section of the track may be closed during or after heavy rain because of rock fall and flood risk. Please check alerts for track closures before you leave home.

Camping

Camping is not permitted in this area.

Cycling

Cycling is not permitted along walking tracks or in Glow Worm Tunnel. You can cycle on public roads and management trails including the Glow Worm Tunnel Road and the Old Coach Road/Trail.

Drones

Flying a drone for recreational purposes is prohibited in this area. Drones may affect public enjoyment, safety and privacy, interfere with park operations, or pose a threat to wildlife. See the Drones in Parks policy.
