Getting there and parking

Edward River Bridge picnic area is in the Gulpa Island precinct of Murray Valley Regional Park. To get there:

  • Follow the signs from Mathoura on Cobb Highway to Edward River campground
  • After turning onto Jones Street, cross Poleys Bridge and continue along Picnic Point Road
  • After about 4.5km, turn left onto Millewa Road
  • Turn left again just before you cross Edward River Bridge and continue to the picnic area

Parking is available in a gravel carpark, including 2 concreted accessible parking spaces.

Autumn

The perfect time for a camping holiday: the days are cooler and the nights are not yet too chilly.

Spring

If it's been a wet winter white ibis and straw necked ibis will be nesting from late winter through to spring. It's also the best time to see wildflowers in bloom.

Summer

A great time for water activities on the Edward River. It's a time when it can get very hot and dry. There are solid fuel fire bans in place for the entire summer season, generally running from 1 October until Easter.

Winter

The morning light sparkles on the river and is the time when the forests are flooded with water and the wetlands come alive.

Step-free access

The picnic area is flat and step-free. There's a walking track that runs to the campsites at nearby Edward River Bridge campground and a concrete path that leads to the kayak launch.

These are the only pathways - to get to the rest of the facilities, you'll need to cross over a mixture of flat grass and hard-packed ground.

Seats and resting points

There are 2 benches with backrests at the nearby campsites north of the picnic area. The benches are set by the river along the walking track that leads to the campground.

Do not dive into the river as there can be submerged logs and the water may be shallow.

Edward River Bridge picnic area is flat and step-free, with the following accessible facilities:

  • 2 concreted accessible parking spaces in the asphalt carpark
  • Accessible non-flush toilets
  • Accessible picnic tables
  • An accessible kayak launch nearby, with a concrete path leading to it.
  • 2 bench seats for resting to the north of the picnic area, by the river at the nearby campground

Aside from a concrete pathway to the kayak launch and walking track to the nearby campground, there are no other paths. You'll need to cross over a mixture of hard-packed ground and flat grass to reach most of the facilities.

A current NSW recreational fishing licence is required when fishing in all waters.

Pets

You can walk your dog on-lead at this location. See other regional parks in NSW that have dog walking areas.

Dogs may not be brought into Murray Valley National Park however they are permitted in Murray Valley Regional Park, including at Edward River Bridge picnic area, as long as park restrictions surrounding dogs are observed.
