Getting there and parking

Myanba Gorge lookout is in the Coolangubra precinct of South East Forest National Park. To get there:

  • Access to Myanba Gorge is via Coolangubra Forest Way and Kanoonah Road (both unsealed) or along Bucky Springs Road south-east from Bombala.

Parking is available in a gravel carpark at Myanba Creek picnic area.

Best times to visit

There are lots of great things waiting for you in South East Forest National Park. Here are some of the highlights.

Autumn

Head to the Bombala River in the early morning or late afternoon to see platypuses - look for circular ripple patterns in the water.

Spring

See Nunnocks Swamp and grasslands in its spring bloom glory.

Summer

A great time for a walk in the park – try the easy Goodenia Rainforest walk through a lush gully of ferns covered by a dense canopy of tall lilly pilly trees.

Winter

After a day exploring, get cosy in front of an open fire at historic Alexanders Hut, Nunnocks Swap.

Step-free access

  • The only way to reach Myanba Gorge lookout is from Myanba Creek picnic area and along Myanba Gorge track. 
  • The first section of Myanba Gorge track is a 1.2m-wide paved track and then a boardwalk up to the first lookout platform. This part of the walk is flat and step-free.
  • After this point, the track has many sets of steps that range from 5 to 28 steps each.

Accessibility

Disability access level - hard

The only way to access Myanba Gorge lookout is from Myanba Creek picnic area and along Myanba Gorge track:

  • The track starts off as a 1.2m wide paved track which becomes a boardwalk for 140m up to the first viewing platform. This part is accessible for wheelchairs, prams and mobility scooters.
  • After the first viewing platform, the track becomes hard-packed ground with a series of steps that range from 5 to 28 steps up until the end where it reaches Myanba Gorge lookout. You may need assistance in this section. 

There are seats with backrests for resting at points along the track and accessible toilets at Myanba Creek picnic area.
