Heavy rainfall and flooding combined with damaging winds caused by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred are expected across northern NSW over the next few days. Most national parks in northern NSW including campgrounds and day use areas will be closed for safety.

The New England Wilderness Walk is closed due to flood and storm risks.

Sunday Creek and the Bellinger river are forecast to be unsafe to traverse.  

NPWS will assess the track following the passage of the current storm event and the route will be re-opened when safe.

Access to the Banda Banda Aboretum is open however extreme caution should be exercised. The trail becomes very slippery in damp or even misty weather and there is an increased risk of fallen trees blocking the trail. There are limited places to turn around safely if the trail is blocked. Visitors are encouraged to walk in to the Arboretum rather than drive.

  • There are 3 areas in Oxley Wild Rivers National Park where you'll need day use vehicle permits: Halls Peak campground and picnic area, Riverside campground and picnic area, and Youdales Hut campground and picnic area. Day use vehicle permits can be bought online or by calling the National Parks Contact Centre on 1300 072 757. If camping, permit fees are included in the campground fee.
