Fire bans: Park fire ban

A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed.

However, the following campgrounds are exempt in Wollemi National Park:

  • Coorongooba,
  • Ganguddy (Dunns Swamp)
  • Wheeny Creek
  • Colo Meroo
  • Sheepskin Hut.

During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the local park office before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.

Closed areas: North Ridge Rd closure

North Ridge Road is now closed for works as part of the Gardens of Stone Multi-Day Walk. The closure will be in place until further notice.

Closed areas: Sunnyside Ridge Road closed

Sunnyside Ridge Road is closed due to unsafe conditions. Damaged mining infrastructure poses a risk to park visitors. The road will remain closed until remedial works make the road safe again.

The closure is inclusive of side tracks, The Spanish Steps and Campbells Road. This closure may be extended depending on progress of the works.

Closed areas: Lost City South Closure

Lost City South is closed until December 2024 for construction associated with the Lost City Walking Track.

Major works include road repairs and access improvements, lookouts and facilities and construction of the Lost City Walking Track.

Lost City South will re-open in December 2024, with 4WD access currently open via Lost City north.

Safety alerts: Haulage trucks using Old Bells Line of Rd

Haulage trucks are in operation along Old Bells Line of Rd between the park entrance near Chifley Road (Zig Zag Railway) and Clarence Sands during the following times:

• Monday to Friday: 04.00 to 18.00

• Saturday: 04.00 to 13.00

 

During these times road users are reminded to:

• drive with caution

• adhere to the speed limit of 40 km/hr

• listen for truck movements via UHF-11

 

If a UHF radio is unavailable, NPWS recommends to access the reserve via State Mine Gully Rd. For more information contact the Kanangra Area office on (02) 6336 6200.
