Getting there and parking

Strickland Estate is located in the same area as Nielsen Park in Sydney Harbour National Park. To get there from Sydney city:

  • Take New South Head Road travelling away from the city
  • Turn left onto Vaucluse Road
  • Street parking is available on Vaucluse Road. It’s around 5mins walk from there to the main entrance of Strickland Estate.

If you’re already inside the park or arriving by boat, the best way to get to Strickland Estate is from Milk Beach or along Hermitage Foreshore track.

Parking

Parking is available at Vaucluse Road, Carrara Road, Queens Avenue, Bayview Hill Road and Greycliffe Avenue. On busy days, Greycliffe Avenue fills up with people visiting Shark Beach and parking could be limited.

There is no vehicle access within the grounds of Strickland Estate.

By bike

Cyclists can access surrounding roads but there is no bicycle access within the grounds of Strickland Estate.

By public transport

Strickland Estate is a 1min walk from the 325 bus stop and a 10min walk from the 324 bus stop. Plan your trip with Transport for NSW.

Toilets

There are flush portaloos around 15m from the stables, in the south-east corner of the grounds.

There are 2 small picnic pavilions in the grounds of Strickland House.

Accessibility

Disability access level - hard

The main path from Vaucluse Road to Strickland House and its stables and gardens is wheelchair-accessible with assistance. The rest of the grounds are unpaved and steep in places, making wheelchair access difficult.

Prohibited

Alcohol, amplified music, and marquees are prohibited and fines will apply.

Camp fires and solid fuel burners

Solid fuel barbeques are prohibited.

Camping

Drones

Flying recreational drones is prohibited at Strickland House because it's located within 5.5km of an airfield or helicopter landing site.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) states that drones should not be flown within 30m of vehicles, boats, buildings or people, or within 5.5km of an airfield. Drones can also impact on public enjoyment and privacy, interfere with park operations, and may pose a threat to wildlife in some areas. For more information, see the Drones in Parks policy.

Contact the local office to obtain consent if you wish to fly a drone for commercial filming or photography purposes.

Commercial filming and photography

Commercial filming or photography is prohibited at Strickland House unless prior consent has been obtained.

Pets

Pets and domestic animals (other than certified assistance animals) are not permitted. Find out which regional parks allow dog walking and see the pets in parks policy for more information.

Smoking

NSW national parks are no smoking areas.

  • Sydney Harbour National Park is open sunrise to sunset but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

  • Park entry fees:

    Bradleys Head: $8 per vehicle per day. North Head: $5 per vehicle per day. Tap and pay card or phone payments accepted at pay machines. Coin payment available at Fairfax carpark machines only. Chowder Bay: Monday-Friday: $3 per hour, to a maximum of $16 per day. Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays: $4 per hour, to a maximum of $20 per day. If you hold an NPWS All Parks or Multi Parks Pass, you can park free for up to four hours per day - additional time can be purchased. Car parks operated by Sydney Harbour Federation Trust or Mosman Council are not covered by your pass. Please check signs carefully. Park’nPay: You can also pay for your visit to any area via the Park’nPay app.

    Other fees:

    Landing fees or tour fees apply to visit Sydney Harbour islands. All public visitors to Shark, Clark or Rodd Island, need to pay a $7 per person landing fee. To arrange, please contact 1300 072 757 (13000 PARKS). Annual NSW Parks Passes do not cover landing fees.
