Fire bans: Solid fuel fire ban for Sturt National Park

There is a 'no solid fuel fire policy' in this park all year round. This park fire ban will remain in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamite) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the local park office before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.

Mutawintji National Park will be closed over the Christmas period.  Visitation and camping will not be available during the period from 23 December 2024 to 3 January 2025.  Currently the Mutawintji Heritage Tours are not operating due to the extreme temperatures experienced during the summer months.  The Heritage tours operated by National Parks will commence again in March 2025.   Please check the booking website for opening dates.    https://mutawintjiheritagetours.com.au/

Closed parks: Park Closed due to rainfall

Narriearra Caryapundy Swamp National Park is currently closed due to heavy rainfall.

  • Many creek crossings & roads are closed and impassable due to severe rainfall causing dangerous conditions.
  • Roads are likely to be cut off and there is a high risk of flash flooding
  • These areas will re-open as soon as they are safe.

This alert will be updated when conditions change.
