Closed areas: Pest control operations

A pest control operations program using firearms is happening in Lane Cove National Park on the following dates:

  • From 10pm Wednesday the 11th of December to 2am Thursday the 12th of December 2024

  • From 10pm Thursday the 12th of December to 2am Friday the 13th of December 2024

This program is targeting wild rabbits.

The following areas will be closed:

  • All picnic areas and walking tracks along Max Allen Drive.
  • The Great North Walk between Lady Game Drive and Fiddens Wharf Oval.
  • All picnic areas along Riverside Drive (between Plassey Road and Fullers Bridge).
  • Riverside walking track between Lane Cove Road and Lane Cove River Weir.

The Bedlam Bay boat ramp in Parramatta River Regional Park will be closed for essential repairs from Monday 25 November until Friday 29 November 2024 inclusive, weather dependent. The wharf remains open.

Closed areas: Area permanently closed - Skylight Cave

Skylight cave is permanently closed to visitors due to serious safety risks. The cave is mid-way down an unstable cliff, and the risk of falling off the cliff edge while trying to reach it makes it very dangerous. 

There is no approved public access walking track to Skylight cave. Please do not risk your safety trying to reach this location.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be using helicopters to lift heavy construction materials for the Great Southern Walk, on the Wodi Wodi and Forest Walk Tracks.

Helicopters are one of the most efficient and low impact ways of transporting heavy construction materials to remote, sensitive and less accessible areas of the park.

The Forest Walk is affected by the closure of Sublime Point walking track until further notice. There is no access between Sublime Point and Austinmer. Sublime Point walking track is currently being repaired or upgraded. As soon as the track can be safely reopened, NPWS alerts will be updated.

The program is continuous and ongoing between 1 August 2024 and 31 January 2025 in Lane Cove National Park. Don’t touch baits. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

The Bluefish Point bushland area is closed to public access for public safety and to protect the landscape and important plant and animal communities. Access to rock pools is difficult and dangerous. Please stay on sign-posted walking tracks when visiting Sydney Harbour National Park for your safety and observe warning signs in the area.

Closed areas: Kurnell foreshore partial closure

Transport for NSW is constructing ferry wharves at Kurnell and La Perouse. Closures will be in place until late 2024. There will be no public access to the foreshore area between Prince Charles Parade and the wharf along Monument walking track. Alternative pedestrian pathways will be in place to allow public access into Kamay Botany Bay National Park.

Pipeline fire trail is currently closed weekdays from 6am to 6pm for bridge maintenance by Sydney Water.

Shark Island wharf is closed from 7am, Monday 21 October until 7am, Saturday 14 December 2024.

Please note:

  • No public access to Shark Island wharf, including kayak landings to the wharf, is permitted during this time.
  • No vessels are permitted to approach or use the wharf or to berth or moor at Shark Island during this time.
  • No bookings, events or commercial activities are permitted on Shark Island during this time.
  • Access to the wider island via beach kayak landings (excluding the wharf area) is permitted during this time.

Essential maintenance works will be occurring to the wharf during this period.

The eastern section of Malabar Headland National Park will be closed on the following dates/times due to ANZAC Rifle Range operations:

  • Every Saturday, 8am to 5pm
  • The 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month, 8am to 5pm 
  • Tuesday 10 and Thursday 12 December 2024 (7am to 12.30 pm)
  • Australian Point Series Championships - Sunday 19 to Tuesday 21 January 2025 (3 days)
  • NSW Kings - Wednesday 22 to Sunday 26 January 2025 (5 days)

Do not enter the eastern section of the national park (including Boora Point walking track) when:

  • Red flags are flying above the range
  • The 'rifle range in use' warning signs are displayed at the park entry (South Maroubra Beach and Fishermans Road carpark).
  • Park entry gates are closed.

Construction works have commenced on the first stage of the Illawarra Escarpment Mountain Bike Project at Kembla Heights. 

Construction is being carried out in accordance with rigorous environmental and cultural heritage planning approvals, the Illawarra Escarpment Mountain Bike Strategy and our Cycling Strategy.

People are reminded that the area is a closed construction site. Please stay off the tracks until they are opened in mid-2025 for your safety and to allow the network to be completed.

Closed areas: The Coast track partial closure

Walking the full length of The Coast track from Otford to Bundeena or Bundeena to Otford is not currently possible due to several track closures along its length. These closures are necessary due to erosion, rockfall risk and ongoing track upgrade works.

Please note the following closures:

  • Palm Jungle Loop track between Burning Palms, Werrong lookout is closed for track upgrades and storm impact remediation until December 2024.
  • The Garie to Little Garie section of The Coast track is closed due to hazardous rockfalls and erosion.
  • North Era campground is closed until further notice.
  • Garie Road, Garie Beach and the Garie precinct is closed until further notice due to damage and subsidence of the road surface. Walkers approaching from the north (e.g. from Wattamolla or Bundeena) should exit the track via Curra Moors track.

Bushwalker access is available for the following sections of The Coast track:

  • South bound access - Bundeena to Curra Moors track via Wattamolla and return only. No access to Garie Beach.
  • North bound access - is via Garawarra Farm Ridge trail and Burgh Ridge track to North Era and return, during track upgrades.
  • Figure 8 Pools access - Access via Garawarra Farm only to Garawarra Ridge trail and Burgh Ridge track.

Lower Pipeline fire trail has suffered some damage from the April 2024 flood event, resulting in a minor landslide, taking out part of the fire trail itself.
