Closed areas: Galah Mountain Road and Rocky Creek Trail Closure

Galah Mountain Road and Rocky Creek Trail in Wollemi National Park will be closed due to road repair and maintenance from Wednesday 19 March 2025 to Tuesday 1 April 2025.

Closed areas: Mt Hay Road, Lockleys Pylon, Butterbox Point Closed

Mt Hay Road within Blue Mountains National Park will be closed from Monday 24 March until Friday 4 April 2025 to allow for road repairs.  Access available to walkers and cyclists on weekends.

During this time there will be no access to the following areas:

  • Lockleys Pylon walking track
  • Butterbox Canyon
  • Fortress Ridge and the surrounding Mt Hay precinct

Fire bans: Kanangra Reserves

A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed.

However Wombeyan Caves campground in Wombeyan Karst Conservation Reserve is exempt.

During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the local park office before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program from Thursday 2 May 2024 to Monday 5 May 2025 in the following areas:

  • Abercrombie River National Park
  • Abercrombie River State Conservation Area
  • Kanangra-Boyd National Park
  • Blue Mountains National Park (southern section)
  • Wollemi National Park (Wolga)
  • Gardens of Stone National Park
  • Jenolan Karst Conservation Area
  • Turon National Park
  • Marrangaroo National Park

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Lost City North Road is temporarily open to visitors from 5pm Friday 7th February 2025 . Road improvement works have commenced and additional future works and associated closures will extend to the middle of 2025.

The improvement works at Lost City North will include road works to enable future 2WD access, native revegetation and rehabilitation works, and new visitor infrastructure including a carpark and accessible lookout.

Visitors are advised to slow down and take care due to the changed traffic conditions. A 4WD is recommended.

The Lost City Walking Track can be accessed via Lost City North Road.

Closed areas: Sunnyside Ridge Road closed

Sunnyside Ridge Road is closed due to unsafe conditions. Damaged mining infrastructure poses a risk to park visitors. The road will remain closed until remedial works make the road safe again.

The closure is inclusive of side tracks, The Spanish Steps and Campbells Road. This closure may be extended depending on progress of the works.

Safety alerts: Haulage trucks using Old Bells Line of Rd

Haulage trucks are in operation along Old Bells Line of Rd between the park entrance near Chifley Road (Zig Zag Railway) and Clarence Sands during the following times:

• Monday to Friday: 04.00 to 18.00

• Saturday: 04.00 to 13.00

 

During these times road users are reminded to:

• drive with caution

• adhere to the speed limit of 40 km/hr

• listen for truck movements via UHF-11
