  • It's a challenging 3 to 4 hour uphill walk to reach this campground from Rummery Park. There’s no vehicle access.
  • It’s a remote spot so you’ll need to carry in your food, water, tent, and take all rubbish out.
  • Check in 2pm, check out at 10am.
  • Each site has timber camping platforms.
  • The timber platforms have adjustable chain anchor points to secure the base of your tent. And tie down points for guy ropes.
  • Be mindful of weather conditions, particularly during the fire season.
  • Be prepared for shallow creek crossings during periods of rainfall.

This secluded campground is the perfect base for adventurous backpack campers who want to experience part of the 4-day Gidjuum Gulganyi Walk before it opens in 2025. Yelgun Kyoomgun (yell-gun key-oom-gun) means ‘sun and stars’ to reflect the view from the campground.

Starting northbound from Rummery Park, follow the walking track for 7.3km which winds through misty blackbutt forest and pockets of rainforest. On a clear day you’ll enjoy expansive views to the south-west which take in the Rocky Creek catchment and outskirts of Lismore.

After all that fresh air and walking, enjoy the remote feeling of a secluded camp under a canopy of ancient New England blackbutt eucalypt forest. At dusk, you might catch a glimpse of a yellow-bellied glider or mountain brushtail possum emerging from a tree hollow.

Wake up to the sounds of birdsong and walk back the same way to Rummery Park campground.

Want to experience a 2-night walk? You can extend your adventure by booking an overnight stay at Weeun Weeun campground. Walk back to Rummery Park and then walk 5.5km along Byan Yangala loop walk to get to Weeun Weeun campground. For the best experience, we recommend you book your first night at Yelgun Kyoomgun campground and your second night at Weeun Weeun campground.
