Newnes campground in Wollemi National Park is closed for maintenance from Wednesday 15 May to Wednesday 31 July 2024.

State Mine Gully Road from the boundary of the State Conservation Area for a length of 1km will be closed on weekdays for road improvements works. State Mine Gully Road will be open from 6:00pm Friday to 6:00am Monday (inclusive of Saturday and Sunday).

The closure is effective from Tuesday 11th June until Friday 23rd August 2024.

Visitors are advised to use Old Bells Line of Road as the primary access into the State Conservation Area during the weekday closure period.

Closed areas: Sunnyside Ridge Road closed

Sunnyside Ridge Road is closed due to unsafe conditions. Damaged mining infrastructure poses a risk to park visitors. The road will remain closed until remedial works make the road safe again.

The closure is inclusive of side tracks, The Spanish Steps and Campbells Road. This closure may be extended depending on progress of the works.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing aerial baiting program from Monday 20th May 2024 to Friday 31st May 2024.

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. The program will take place in Avisford Nature Reserve (NR), Capertee National Park (NP) and managed Crown Land, Dapper NR, Durridgere State Conservation Area (SCA), Goodiman SCA, Goulburn River NP, Mugii Murum-ban SCA, Munghorn Gap Nature Reserve (NR), Yarrobil NP.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: Glow Worm to Newnes walking track

The section from Glow Worm Tunnel to Newnes walking track from the Glow Worm tunnel exit to the ‘four-ways’ intersection, Wolgan Valley, will remain closed until further notice.

This closure is due to significant rainfall, geohazards and to allow track work.

Road works are currently in progress on Long Swamp Trail and Baal Bone Trail.

 

No through access from Long Swamp Trail and Baal Bone Trail to:

Closed areas: Lost City South Closure

Lost City South is closed until December 2024 for construction associated with the Lost City Walking Track.

Major works include road repairs and access improvements, lookouts and facilities and construction of the Lost City Walking Track.

Lost City South will re-open in December 2024, with 4WD access currently open via Lost City north.

Safety alerts: Haulage trucks using Old Bells Line of Rd

Haulage trucks are in operation along Old Bells Line of Rd between the park entrance near Chifley Road (Zig Zag Railway) and Clarence Sands during the following times:

• Monday to Friday: 04.00 to 18.00

• Saturday: 04.00 to 13.00

 

During these times road users are reminded to:

• drive with caution

• adhere to the speed limit of 40 km/hr

• listen for truck movements via UHF-11

 

If a UHF radio is unavailable, NPWS recommends to access the reserve via State Mine Gully Rd. For more information contact the Kanangra Area office on (02) 6336 6200.
