Closed areas: Thredbo Valley Track closed for event

The following areas of Thredbo Valley Track will be closed due to an event:

  • Thredbo Valley Trail at Skitube Bridge to the junction of Perisher to Bullocks Flat walk- closed from 7am to 2pm Friday November 29. The Lower Thredbo Valley Track will be accessible from Thredbo River Day Use Area only. 
  • Thredbo Valley Track from Thredbo Resort to Bullocks Flat - closed from 7am to 5.30pm on Thursday 28 November and closed from 12pm Friday 29 November to 11.40am Saturday 30 November 2024
  • Thredbo Valley Track from Bullocks Flat to Gaden Trout Hatchery - closed from 3am to 10am Friday 29 November

The following areas in Kosciuszko National Park will be closed for an event on Friday 29 November 2024:

  • Snowies Alpine Walk between Perisher and Charlotte Pass - closed between 6am and 3:15pm
  • Snowies Alpine Walk between Charlotte Pass and Guthega - closed between 9am and 10:30am
  • Main Range between Blue Lake Lookout and Kosciuszko Summit junction - closed between 8am and 8:30pm

The Snowies Alpine Walk between Perisher and Bullocks Flat will remain closed.

Closed areas: Sections of Kosciuszko National Park closed for feral animal control

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is conducting aerial control operations in some parts of this park. Areas will be closed between 7am, Monday 11 November and 7pm, Friday 29 November 2024. The operation will not run on weekends from 7pm Friday to 7am Monday. As operations are completed a staged re-opening will occur. Closure notices will be placed at relevant access points. Do not enter the closed areas. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

The following areas will be closed:

  • The alternative section of the AAWT from Guthega to Charlottes Pass along the Illawong track.
  • Rennix Walk
  • Rainbow Lake Walk 
  • Porcupine Walk
  • Waterfall Walk
  • Illawong Walk
  • Guthega to Charlotte Pass Walk
  • Charlotte Pass Village to Perisher Valley Walk 
  • Hannels Spur Track 
  • The Main Range - Dicky Cooper Bogong south along Rolling Grounds (down to ~1300m elevation to West, ~1600m elevation to N, E) to Wilkinson Valley
  • Ramshead Range - Merritts Creek east to Sawpit Creek
  • Part of Perisher Range including Mount Guthrie (Snowy River east to Mount Paralyser)
  • The area east of Guthega Link Road, eastwards to Diggers Creek
  • The area east from Diggers Creek (Guthega Road) and north of Kosciuszko Road eastwards towards Jindabyne Pumping Station
  • The area west of Thredbo Resort, Dead Horse Gap Walk and Kosciuszko Walk, bounded by the Alpine Way to the south and down to approximately 1300m elevation in the west to north-west.
  • Cootapatamba Hut
  • Pilot Wilderness Area, between Rileys Track and Big Boggy in the north, and Murray River and Ingeegoodbee in the south.
  • Teddy’s Hut
  • Tin Mine Trail
  • The area south of Mount Jagungal and west of the Brassy Mountains.

The following tracks in this area will remain open during the operation:

  • The official AAWT through the area (apart from the unofficial section noted above in the closed area) remains open.
  • Kosciuszko Walk
  • Summit Walk
  • Summit Trail
  • Main Range Walk
  • Mount Stilwell Walk
  • Pallaibo Walk
  • Dead Horse Gap Walk
  • Thredbo River Walk
  • Thredbo Valley Track

Closed areas: Thredbo River picnic area toilet closed

Recent severe winds have brought down a tree on the toilet block at Thredbo River picnic area. As a result the toilet block is closed and cannot be utilised. Please be aware that contractors will be working  at the site and will have vehicles moving in and out of the area. Other facilities at the site are available.

Safety alerts: Summit Trail- post Winter hazards

Please be aware of hazards along the Summit Trail. The trail is rough in sections because of erosion caused by heavy rainfall and snowmelt.

Other planned events: Notice of 1080 ongoing program

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a baiting program using baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. The program will be continuous and ongoing between Friday 9 August 2024 and Friday 7 February 2025. These programs are part of an integrated pest animal control strategy, aimed at minimising the impacts of these animals on neighbouring stock.

Baiting programs will be conducted in Thredbo/Ingebyra, Dalgety/Paupong and Corrowong/Tombong/Merriangaah Wild Dog Plan Areas. Baiting programs will also be undertaken in Paupong, Merriangaah and Quidong Nature Reserves.

This includes the following sections of Kosciuszko National Park:

  • Thredbo Valley
  • Moonbah
  • Ingebyra
  • Paupong
  • Numbla Vale
  • Corrowong

All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

Please be reminded that domestic pets are not permitted on NPWS Estate. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Several buildings in the Bullocks Hut complex are closed until further notice for restoration works. Please do not enter the construction sites.

  • The Thredbo-Perisher area is open all year, but some roads and trails may close due to weather conditions or park management issues. Kosciuszko Road is closed between Perisher and Charlotte Pass in winter (June to October long weekends).
  • Park entry fees apply on Alpine Way and Kosciuszko Road

    Winter (June to October long weekends): $29 per vehicle per day (24hrs from purchase); motorcycles $12; bus passengers $11.45 per adult, $3.60 per child per day. Find out more about the winter entry surcharge.

    Rest of Year: $17 per vehicle per day (24hrs); motorcycles $7; bus passengers $6.60 per adult, $2.20 per child per day.

    Passes: Day passes, multi-day passes and annual All Parks Pass available from NPWS visitor centres, local agents and operating vehicle entry stations.
