Overview

Tiraki Nature Reserve was created in October 2022. It covers an area of 609.63ha. View the detailed park and fire management documents.

In the language of the Aboriginal Wonnarua People, ‘tiraki’ is a word that applies to ironbark trees, the wood and bark collected from those trees for firewood, and fire itself. Ironbark trees dominate this reserve, which lies between Cessnock and Singleton, close to the towns of Branxton and North Rothbury.

Its vegetation includes 5 threatened ecological communities of eucalypt and gum forests, and threatened plant species like the North Rothbury persoonia, the pine donkey orchid and the slaty red gum. The migratory and endangered swift parrot has been seen there.

Recreational activities include bushwalking and birdwatching.
