Round Hill Nature Reserve
Overview
Round Hill Nature Reserve was created in April 1960. It covers an area of 13630ha. View the detailed park and fire management documents.
The northern parts of Round Hill Nature Reserve are located on the edge of the Cobar peneplain and the remainder is sand hill and plains country. Along with Yathong and Nombinnie nature reserves, Round Hill forms part of one of the largest contiguous blocks of mallee in western NSW.
The reserve includes habitats of malleefowl, shy hylacola, southern scrub robin, pink cockatoo, red lored whistler, chestnut quail thrush, ningaui and western blue tongue lizard.
Principal management objectives include the maintenance of habitat diversity, encouragement of regeneration and protection of rare plant and animal species. Research and educational activities are encouraged where compatible with nature conservation objectives.
Before you visit Round Hill Nature Reserve, please call the Dubbo office and let us know your travel plans.
You're welcome to walk along the fire trails, but please only drive on the public roads. There is no camping in Round Hill Nature Reserve, however there are a number of accommodation options in nearby Lake Cargelligo or at the Royal Hotel in Mount Hope.
Planning for the future
