Overview

Narran Lake Nature Reserve was created in October 1988. It covers an area of 26480ha. View the detailed park and fire management documents.

Narran Lake Nature Reserve is not open to members of the public. In order to protect nesting birds, access to the reserve is limited to those undertaking scientific studies. The Narran Lake Nature Reserve Ramsar site was listed under the Ramsar Convention in 1999 for its wetlands and the unique ecological communities within them.

Narran Lake Nature Reserve lies within the traditional country of the Yuwaalayaay/Euahlayi people and is under joint management by NPWS and the Narran Lake Nature Reserve Joint Management Committee (NLNRJMC). Read the Creation Story of the lakes of the Narran River.
