Midkin Nature Reserve
Overview
Midkin Nature Reserve was created in March 1976. It covers an area of 359ha. View the detailed park and fire management documents.
This former timber reserve near Moree protects remnant vegetation in a region that has been highly modified by agriculture.
Coolibah-poplar box woodland dominates the reserve, with small areas of rosewood, whitewood and myall. Relics of a sub-tropical past, such as the carbeen tree, are found scattered throughout the reserve.
Areas of the reserve become swampy after heavy rain, attracting waterbirds such as the threatened brolga.
Access is limited and walking, nature appreciation and study are the only permitted activities. You will need to contact the ranger when planning your visit.
