Overview

Loughnan Nature Reserve was created in May 1981. It covers an area of 385ha. View the detailed park and fire management documents.

Loughnan Nature Reserve is dominated by a mallee community of pointed mallee, congoo mallee, narrow leafed mallee and yorrel. Inter-dune swales have red box in woodland formation.

It also protects endangered mallee birds, including malleefowl, southern scrub-robin, chestnut quail thrush and shy hylacola.

The reserve is managed to conserve these habitats by minimising disturbance and public access.
