The reserve is Gumbaynggirr Country, near the town of Nymboida. It lies on the Dorrigo Plateau in the New England Tablelands and shares a boundary with Chaelundi National Park.

Chaelundi Flora Reserve enhances the refuge offered by Chaelundi National Park, a place of wild and natural landscapes with the highest level of conservation protection. Chaelundi National Park is home to 30 threatened animals, including the endangered brush-tailed rock-wallaby and the Hastings River mouse, an endangered native rodent once thought to be extinct.

Although understanding of Chaelundi Flora Reserve's wildlife is still in the early stages, it's known to host at least 1 threatened species, and another 10 threatened species are found within 1km of its boundaries.

About flora reserves

Flora reserves were established under the Forestry Act 2012 and remain State Forest. Under a unique management arrangement, this land is managed by NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. This ensures management is consistent with the adjoining national parks.
