Cattai picnic shelters, near Windsor, are several large picnic shelters available for venue hire. Enjoy your next family celebration or nature-based event with the Hawkesbury River as your backdrop.

Availability
Available for hire 8am to 6pm from May to August and 8am to 8pm from September to April. The park may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

  • Exclusive use of the shelter is available but not the whole picnic area.
  • Picnic shelters can be booked in advance for a fee. Booking reservations must be made 4 or more day(s) in advance.
  • Visitors are welcome to use the picnic shelters if they haven't been booked
  • Please note the park's opening hours as gates are locked at closing time

There’s plenty of space for children to run and ride around the picnic area, making Cattai picnic shelters an ideal child-friendly venue.

Aside from being a picturesque location framed by lush parklands, Cattai picnic area is also quite accessible.

Your guests can enjoy a leisurely walk to the historic homestead where you can take a peek into Australian history. Or take advantage of the river and incorporate canoeing or fishing into your relaxed celebrations.

Getting there and parking

To get to Cattai picnic area, take the park turn off from Cattai Road or Wisemans Ferry Road. You'll find the picnic area about 2km along the road.

Parking is available on the main road of the park, as well as at Cattai picnic area with no marked spots.

Permitted

Food and drink

  • You may bring your own food as well as portable gas or charcoal barbeques fitted with drip trays for cooking.
  • Commercial catering allowed with consent.
  • Limited alcohol consumption by guests is permitted and amounts must be detailed on application form.

Plant materials

  • Petals, flowers and flower arrangements containing no seed material. 
  • A florist can arrange this for you on request.

Structures, staging, furniture and amusements

Decorations can be attached by cable ties or tape and must be removed and taken away at the end of the booking.     

Commercial filming and photography

Commercial photography and video requires a small scale photography license.

Power, lighting and amplified sound

  • There is no publicly available power.
  • 1 single speaker portable PA system or music player with an amplifier no greater than 50 watts.
  • Volume must be kept at a level that does not interfere with other park user’s quiet enjoyment of the park.
  • Lighting may be permitted and must be detailed on application.

Balloons, plant materials and animals are not permitted, including:

  • Balloon arches and balloon displays
  • Decorations consisting of flowers or plant materials that contain seeds or vines and exotic plant materials
  • Cannons and launchers or poppers
  • Throwing confetti, rice, petals or streamers
  • Candles or open flames

Horse-drawn carriages are not permitted at this venue.

Tents, marquees and banners are not permitted. Please do not put up signage or cordon off structures.

Jumping castles and water play equipment including water balloons, slip 'n' slides and sprinklers are not permitted.

NPWS encourages the use of more eco-friendly alternatives such as bubbles and wind wheels.

Pets

Pets and domestic animals (other than certified assistance animals) are not permitted. Find out which regional parks allow dog walking and see the pets in parks policy for more information.
